Our third instalment in our ’60 seconds with…’ series sees us meet with Denai Lewis, Head of Projects at ClearSpace Group. Denai has extensive experience in the London moves and changes market, having managed hundreds of large-scale office projects over the past 20 years. Denai is rarely in the office as he can usually be found at our client’s sites and so we relished the opportunity to pin him down, interview him and find out why our customers rate him so highly.
Tell us about your role at ClearSpace, what do you do on a day-to-day basis?
My official title is Head of Projects. Every day is different. I could be monitoring progress of projects from our office, be onsite managing our teams or working from home and hosting internal project meetings.
What is your favourite time of year and why?
It’s definitely the Summer. I love the hot weather.
What is the last programme you watched?
It was a Marvels series called Loki.
If you could invite 3 people to a dinner party (alive or gone), who would you invite?
It would be the science fiction writer Isaac Asimov, Trent Reznor the music producer and Groot!
What project are you most proud of in your career?
It was a project for Howden Insurance Group and involved consolidating four office buildings into one and relocating 1400 people. I managed the move involving the relocation of their artwork, filing and documents, personal items and rolled-out the installment of IT equipment. We’ve been working with Howdens ever since and are currently establishing a new asset tracking process for them in London and outside.
Describe ClearSpace in three words?
Young, Exciting and Innovative.
What is your favourite part of your job? I like the completion phase of a project, knowing the client is happy with what we’ve done. I like to leave them with a smile on their face.
If you could un-invent something, what would it be? Coffee! Not a fan. Don’t like the smell.
Do you think remote working is here to stay?
Getting people away from fixed desks has been an ambition for most companies for many years and certainly pre-pandemic. 'Hot-desks' and collaborative spaces were being introduced years ago and in my experience, people would still sit at the same desk if they could. The pandemic definitely pushed boundaries and elevated agile working plans and although I think some companies will revert back to old habits to a degree over the coming months, I think shared spaces will be more successful. The younger generation will help with this.
What would your autobiography be called?
Simple, 'Moves and Changes'.
Denai is a member of the ClearSpace Group management team. ClearSpace Group’s workplace consultants are expert in helping organizations to optimize their working environment through their different services; move management, going paperless, workplace consultancy and asset tracking.
